Who are we
From Occupational Therapist to Craftsmanship: My Career Reinvention
For 28 years, I’ve worked within the NHS, the last 23 as an Occupational Therapist in Trauma. This involved helping patients recover from injury, surgery, and guide them to return home. It was incredibly rewarding, and I met amazing people, but over time, I felt a growing desire to create.
In 2023, I made the decision to leave the NHS and pursue my passion for woodworking, which had been developing in the background since childhood. Establishing ‘Mitchell’s Wood Studio’ with my wife, we now craft bespoke tables and homewares from responsibly sourced hardwoods in my East Bridgford studio. The values I developed in healthcare—patience, precision, and a deep understanding of how our environment impacts well-being—have seamlessly carried over into this new chapter.
At Mitchell’s Wood Studio, we design unique tables, create custom furniture solutions for small spaces, and rejuvenate cherished furniture. Services range from building bespoke river tables—to small homewares such as coasters.
Whatever I’m creating, my goal remains the same: to bring quality, joy, individuality and function into people’s lives through beautiful, unique, and sustainable woodworking.
